Terracotta Model Chariot

Terracotta model chariot with riders; hand-modelled with applied details; the group sits on a solid rectangular base with curved edges; the car is schematically rendered; four horses (head of the right-hand one is lost) with prominent forelocks and elaborate tassles hanging down the neck; the muzzles are missing from three of the animals; three people, also schematically detailed with prominent noses and chins and pellet eyes, and wearing conical caps, are shown riding in the car: the driver with outstretched arms (reins are preserved), a warrior with a shield, and a bowman (part of bow missing). The group is made of fairly coarse buff clay decorated with red-orange and black paint: stripes on the legs of the horses and spots on the wheels.
