Soli (B.3317)

Bearded head in stone from Soli, seen from the front — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Csn3755. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A stone head of a bearded man seen straight on, with wavy hair framing the face and a full beard. Many small round holes pierce the beard and hair, and the surface is rough and weathered. The eyes, brows and lips are carved in relief, and the edges of the hair at the back are broken, set on a plain pale base against a grey backdrop.
