Description

A woman in a headscarf and dark cardigan sits at a large wooden loom, her hands resting on the weaving and her gaze turned toward the camera. Long warp threads run from the loom toward the foreground, and tools and wooden rods hang on the wall behind her. The floor is laid with flat stone slabs, and her boots show beneath the frame of the loom.

VILLAGE LOOM. "They have some manufacturers in the Island, and do not want capacity. Of cotton dimities, with a little silk. They make about 10,000 pieces, of ten piks each… and of a thin, coarse cotton shirting a great quantity." Alexander Drummond-1745 (Travels through different cities). Sh. Guebelian
