Morphou Bay from Soli

Description
A large tree with spreading branches fills the right foreground, above low scrub and rough ground. Beyond, the land falls to a flat, tree-dotted valley and then a band of calm sea, with hills rising on the far shore under a sky with cumulus clouds. A printed text strip is mounted along the lower left edge of the photograph.

MORPHOU BAY FROM SOLI. Moira Gillespie. "A very pleasant valley, having a prospect over the sea as far as Cilicia… Here are very beautiful hills, and pleasant and delightful valleys, always resounding with the melodious singing of birds. Here are warm sun, shady groves, dewy herbs, green grass, and soft downy meadows to lie down and rest upon." Martin von Baumgarten - 1508 (Travels)
