Limestone Cypro-Greek I Mersinaki I-II

Limestone head from Mersinaki with wavy hair, almond-shaped eyes and a faint smile — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Csn0469. Public domain (CC0).

Description

Photograph of a carved limestone head shown frontally against a plain grey background. The hair is arranged in wavy bands over the forehead and drawn back past the ears, and the eyes have heavy lids with a faint closed-lipped smile below a short nose. The head ends in a rough, broken neck, and the stone surface shows pitting and wear.
