Hellenistic roman Mersinaki Terracotta limestone

Description

A carved head and shoulders in pale, pitted stone, turned three-quarters to the left against a dark plain backdrop. The short hair is shown as rows of curled locks over the forehead and around the ear, and the eyes are lowered beneath heavy lids. The surface is weathered and rough, and the cut edge of the bust is visible at the bottom of the frame.
