Carved limestone head with a bust-like neck and banded hair, shown on a black stand from Mersinaki — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C06834. Public domain (CC0).

Description

Front view of a carved limestone head with a short neck, set on a black stand against a pale grey backdrop. The hair is shown in fine vertical grooves over the top of the head and in wavy bands across the forehead, with hair falling beside the ears. The face has narrow, heavy-lidded eyes, a straight nose with a worn tip, and a faint smile, and the stone surface is pitted and weathered.
