Cypro-Greek II Limestone Mersinaki III-IV (Me. 0498)

Headless limestone statue of a draped standing figure from Mersinaki, front view — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C05565. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A standing limestone statue shown from the front against a plain grey backdrop, its head broken off at the neck. The body is wrapped in a mantle with long curved folds, and a pleated band shows at the lower edge above the bare feet. One arm hangs straight at the side, while the other is bent across the body with its end broken away; the surface is weathered and chipped, and the figure stands on a low base.
