Terracotta limestone head from Mersinaki (Me. 0637)

Terracotta limestone head from Mersinaki with short curled hair and a slight smile — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C05431. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A small head seen frontally against a grey backdrop, with short curled hair framing the forehead and ears. The heavy-lidded eyes and closed mouth in a slight smile are clear, and the pitted surface looks worn. The neck is broken off flat at the base, with dark material beneath, and the print is mounted on a card with a number label in the lower right corner.
