Limestone head from Mersinaki with downcast eyes and a band of curled hair across the brow — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C05019. Public domain (CC0).

Description

The head of a limestone statue is shown frontally against a plain grey backdrop, with its neck resting on a folded pale cloth. The heavy-lidded eyes are cast downward, the mouth is small and closed, and the hair is arranged in rows of curls around the forehead and sides. The stone surface is pitted and worn, and a crack runs across the neck.
