Terracotta Cypro-Greek I Mersinaki I-II (Me. 0955)

Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C04680. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A sculpted head shown in right profile, with a tall flat-topped headdress, a large ear, an almond-shaped eye and a curled beard along the jaw. The top of the headdress is broken, and the head ends abruptly at the back and below the chin in a rough break at the neck. The surface is worn and pitted, and the plain pale grey background makes the outline stand out.
