Description

A large excavated cutting with a steep sloping bank, shadowed in the foreground. Rubble stone walls stand along the upper terraces, and a dark recess is visible near the centre right. About a dozen people in light clothing stand, crouch and move among the loose earth and stones, some holding long tools, while figures in the foreground look on.
