Description
A large vertical face of dark excavated soil, scattered with stones, fills the left side of the photograph. Pale hillside or sky fills the background, and the print is mounted on a dark card with a label at the lower edge.

- Description, scan 2
- A deep excavation cutting with a vertical face of dark, layered soil filling the left side, and a pale, stony, uneven surface rising across the right foreground. Hills rise in the hazy background beyond the edge of the cutting, and a small upright stake stands near the right edge. The view shows the trench and rock, with no clearly identifiable theatre structure.
