Description

A deep excavation cutting runs across the middle of the picture, its sides showing layers of stones set in earth. Several people work at the far end of the trench and along its rim, some bending low and others standing. On the left, a row of rubble stones lies in the cut face. Tall trees and a pale sky fill the background.

English

Workers dig into a deep cutting in pale, stony soil, with rubble walls on the left. Two people in hats and a figure in a light dress stand at the upper edge beside a ranging pole, under trees.
