Life and work
- 1884Supplied notes, printed in Salaminia (2nd ed.), on the Greek bronze flute (pipe, about twenty inches long, with rings to stop holes) found by A. P. di Cesnola in Cyprus: an exact brass copy had been made by R. Carte and his son Henry Carte, reproducing a scale of thirteen notes (C to G); compared with the ivory flutes from Pompeii in Naples; explained the metal rings as stopping devices.
