    Hofmeister urged Adlerberg, as Minister of the Imperial Court, not to miss the chance to buy the Golgoi 'antiquities of a new kind' for the Hermitage; Cesnola's price was 80,000 roubles. The initial offer was soon withdrawn by the Russians, who then asked for a few good pieces at 3,000 roubles; the Hermitage did not acquire the collection, which went to the Metropolitan Museum.
