    Urged the Minister of the Imperial Court, V. Th. Adlerberg, not to miss the chance to buy Cesnola's Golgoi finds as 'antiquities of a new kind' for the Hermitage; Cesnola asked 80,000 roubles and Johannes Doell was to go to Cyprus to catalogue them.

    Elizabeth McFadden, reading the Hermitage letters, speculated that a missing fragment was shown to Gedeonov, 'then to the Hofmeister', then to Count Aldenberg and the Emperor Alexander; the Russian purchase failed.
