    An English traveller, Mr. Rooke, who had visited 'Cythera' and other antiquities, met Ali Bey at Limassol. Ali Bey records that Rooke could give him no account of a hilltop building overlooking Cytherea and Idalia.

    Lieutenant Colonel Rooke, said by Capt. Henry Light to have died at Baffa a few days before Light reached Larnaca; Light was lodged in his former apartments. Light calls him a man respected in Cyprus whose taste for travel kept him long in the East, where he spent large sums on 'objects of research' and on generosity to the natives.

  3. 7 July 1814
    Died in a convent in Cyprus and was buried by the monks with the consent of the Greek bishop; his brother W. Rooke had a memorial slab placed over the grave. It names him Henry Rooke Esq., formerly Major in the 100th Regiment of Foot with brevet rank of Lieutenant Colonel, who after leaving the army travelled in Europe and in 1799 served as a volunteer with the Russian army at the siege of Ancona.
