- 2 May 1888Came to the British excavation camp at Kouklia (Old Paphos) with E. A. Gardner and Malcolm Macmillan, investigating the authenticity of certain of General Cesnola's statements about various sites.

- 1888In Cyprus during 1888; with Guillemard he read the Larnaca Poseidon inscription with an N, not a Lambda, as Hogarth later confirmed.

- 1891Published a study of the Greek goddess (Aphrodite), chapter 7 on Paphos and its sanctuary; he questioned Cesnola's claim to have bought the land (villagers remembered the dragoman Besbes but no purchase) and his description of granite on the spot, where none exists.
