    Member of the American Expedition to Idalion from the 1971 pilot season; the 1974 report calls him an energetic member of the dig in both seasons (1971 and 1972).

    As the Expedition's zoologist he made the preliminary field identification of the faunal remains from the aceramic Neolithic deposit at Dhali-Agridhi (goat, sheep, pig, roe deer, red deer, Persian fallow deer, wild ass, gazelle).

    Wrote Part 2 (Faunal List) of the Dhali-Agridhi excavation report and Chapter V, 'The Paleo-Osteology of Cyprus', in the first preliminary report of the American Expedition to Idalion.

    A later faunal report in the 1973-1980 volume says the 1972 material behind Schwartz's identifications was not then accessible, and that the author found no evidence for roe deer, gazelle or Equus at Dhali-Agridhi; presence of red deer left open.
