Life and work
- 1880Made, from the objects themselves at the Metropolitan Museum, the sketches used in the Art Amateur publication (summer 1880).
- March 1881Visited the museum again and found the mirror in the left hand of the 'Venus or Hope' statuette (no. 157) considerably altered: first an oval frame running up in graceful curves into a handle like the back of a hairbrush, now more rigid and angular lines, the hairbrush appearance gone.
- October–December 1883Testified in Feuardent v. Cesnola as a draughtsman (heading 'The Art Amateur's illustrations'), after the identification of the Doell translations by Savage and before the affidavits of the British Museum experts; illustrated the difference in the mirror by sketches made in the presence of the jury.
- 1883NamedWitness (not a party) in Feuardent v. Cesnola; testified that the mirror had changed shape between 1880 and March 1881.
