- December 1883 – January 1884Testified for the plaintiff in Feuardent v. Cesnola (US Circuit Court, Judge Shipman): produced his sketches of summer 1880 and March 1881 of the statuette with the mirror, showing the mirror's form and the statuette's surface changed between the two dates; said the 'Egyptian warrior' statuette now differed in colour between head and body and showed fracture points not visible in 1880
- 1883–1884Civil suitWitness for the plaintiff in Feuardent's libel suit against L. P. di Cesnola (US Circuit Court, Judge Shipman; trial opened 31 Oct 1883; plaintiff's counsel Oudin and Oakley, attorneys, and F. C. Bangs; Cesnola's counsel Stickney and Joseph H. Choate).
