- 1868Cesnola told him that the British Museum, alerted by Sandwith, was sending an agent to buy the local finds.
- 1868–1869Cesnola, via Mr Church, offered the New-York Historical Society his Cypriot 'museum' (valued $15,000, payable over ten years) with preference to America; Cesnola heard nothing from Fish.
- 12 June 1869Cesnola congratulated Fish on his State Department appointment and repeated the offer; no answer.
