    In a letter of 18 December 1861 (the day after Vogüé's letter of 17 December), Renan sends Vogüé, who is to take over Renan's Phoenician and Cypriot work, a letter of Fuad Pacha to the Pasha of Nicosia, left with M. Gaillardot, together with the firman for the excavations (also with Gaillardot) and a letter of Thouvenel to the consular agents. Vogüé landed at Larnaca on 28 January 1862.
