Colonial official
Frank G. Glossop
fl. 1894–1898 · United Kingdom
British colonial official, active 1894–1898. Worked at Kyrenia district.
Life and work
- 1894–1898The peasant Constanti Thoma, finder of the first Lambousa silver, 'stated to Mr [Frank G] Glossop' that he had sold 17 pieces of plate to a jeweller or goldsmith at Ayios Dometios for 25 pounds (the jeweller Nikolaki of Nicosia). Chamberlayne had this from 'Mr Giovanni', so Glossop's knowledge reaches us twice removed. Merrillees searched the Chief Secretary's index for 1897 and 1898 in the Lefkosia State Archives and found no mention of the hoard (p. 399), so no report by Glossop is known; his tenure at Kyrenia is given as 1894-8.
