Life and work

  1. 1934
    With Mrs Talbot Rice, helped Rupert Gunnis gather together and clean a collection of icons in the church of the Panayia Chrysaliniotissa, Nicosia (Symons's wording: 'Professor and Mrs. Talbot Rice').

  2. 1936
    Visiting art historian; made complaints to the Governor about the Department of Antiquities' work, then on return to England circulated a report to all concerned. The Governor called it 'a most inaccurate, harmful and ill-considered document'. Gunnis, who hosted the Talbot Rices in Nicosia, was strongly suspected of having steered his opinions against John Hilton.
