Christos Tsountas

fl. 1894 · Greece

Greek scholar, active in 1894.

Life and work

  1. 24 March 1894
At a Cyprus Museum Committee meeting a proposal, evidently by Eustathios Constantinides, was made to invite Professor Christos Tsountas from Greece to visit the collection and report to the Cyprus Government on how to make it more available for scientific study. Merrillees notes that in fact no decision was taken on the motion.

  2. 17 May 1894
Ohnefalsch-Richter protested in writing to the Committee against the supposed decision to invite 'Mr. Tzuntas a Greek archaeologist of Athens' to make the catalogue; on 19 May Myres annotated that he had not understood any such decision to have been taken and had told Thompson he did not think Tsountas had any special knowledge of Cyprus.
