Life and work
- 1901Published a two-page notice, 'The Marburg Collection of Cypriote Antiquities', describing the 122 pieces (49 gold ornaments, 13 seal-cylinders, 20 engraved gems and seals, 40 scarabs and other small objects) that Theodore Marburg had acquired from Col. Falkland Warren and given to Johns Hopkins University. He says he had not been able to make a careful study and hoped to report more fully later.

- 1901Masson notes that the fuller study Johnston announced does not seem ever to have appeared, and that he was 'an esteemed Assyriologist'.
