Benoît Devillers
fl. 2002–2008
Scholar and archaeologist, active 2002–2008. Excavated at Ayios Sozomenos-Kakoskalin. Worked with Nolwenn Lécuyer; wrote with Pamela Gaber and Mireille Provansal.
Life and work
- 2002While examining the Gialias valley as a geomorphologist, remarked that previous searchers for the Bronze Age settlement near Ayios Sozomenos had looked in the wrong place: it must lie under metres of alluvium in the plain below the plateau of the tombs.
Ayios SozomenosGaber 2008, p. 10
- 2003Directed deep cutting operations that found evidence of an extensive Bronze Age urban centre at Kakoskalin near Ayios Sozomenos, the Bronze Age 'parent' of Idalion; the work was with the Aix-en-Provence team at Potamia under Nolwenn Lecuyer.
Ayios Sozomenos-KakoskalinGaber 2008, p. 10
- 2005With Gaber and Lecuyer published the Agios Sozomenos Bronze Age settlement notes (RDAC 2004, pp. 85-92; Gaber cites it in the text as 2005 and in the bibliography as 2004).
- 2008Published Holocene Morphogenesis and Anthropisation of a Semi-arid Watershed, Gialias River, Cyprus (BAR International Series 1775), cited by later work for the Gialias river's navigability, coastal progradation (c. 20 km since the Neolithic) and the seaward shift of settlements.
