Greek museum-education team visits Paphos and Larnaca museums and trains Cypriot officials
Three specialists from the Greek Ministry of Culture spent 23–25 September 2026 in Cyprus and ran a seminar for Cypriot officials on teaching with heritage.
A three-person team from the Greek Ministry of Culture held working meetings at the Paphos District Museum and the Larnaca District Museum during a visit to Cyprus on 23–25 September 2026, and ran a training seminar for Cypriot officials on using the island's heritage in teaching. Cyprus's Deputy Ministry of Culture described the visit as an important step in carrying out the Cultural Cooperation Agreement between the two ministries.
Dr Andromachi Katselaki, head of the Department of Educational Programmes and Communication, led the group. With her were Amalia Tsitouri, an archaeologist and museologist, and Athina Papadaki, an archaeologist specialising in cultural management. Katselaki's department, which sits within the Greek ministry's Directorate of Archaeological Museums, Exhibitions and Educational Programmes, has spent more than twenty years designing programmes for schools, teachers, families and special audiences at museums, monuments and archaeological sites throughout Greece.
The seminar, titled "Designing activities for the educational use of the cultural heritage of Cyprus" (our translation), was attended by staff of the Deputy Ministry and the Department of Antiquities, which runs both district museums, and by museum-education inspectors and advisers from the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth. Talks covered learning through culture, accessibility and getting children more actively involved. The Deputy Ministry links the visit to Deputy Minister Clea Papaellina's plan to expand cultural education and audience programmes at the island's museums, monuments and sites.
