The Cyprus Institute wants a full-time Associate Research Scientist (reference STARC_ARS_26_14) to build and manage digital models of historic buildings and sites for STARC, its archaeology and culture research centre, on the Athalassa campus in Nicosia. Applications close on 15 November 2026.

The work centres on Heritage Building Information Modelling (HBIM): models of old buildings that hold, alongside their geometry, archive material, survey results and diagnostic data on their condition. The researcher will set up these workflows, write scripts that speed up parametric modelling and merge mixed datasets, and move models between Autodesk Revit, heritage platforms and repositories through open standards such as IFC. The Institute also lists digital twins for conservation, assessments of building performance and environmental sustainability, FAIR data-management plans using vocabularies such as CIDOC CRM and the Getty AAT, papers, open datasets, talks for heritage professionals and policymakers, and grant bids. It is a different post from STARC's heritage data integration vacancy, which has the same deadline.

Applicants need a PhD in architecture, heritage science or a close discipline with a clear digital focus on the historic built environment; documented HBIM skills, including scan-to-BIM and making parametric families; programming in Python, Dynamo, Grasshopper or similar; experience of building energy simulation; peer-reviewed papers on digital heritage and on building simulation; and a working grasp of BIM information exchange and open standards. Preferred extras include Revit/Dynamo and Rhinoceros/Grasshopper at an advanced level, ISO 19650 and openBIM, research on energy-efficient retrofitting of old buildings or passive design, semantic annotation, AI work on architectural heritage datasets, project coordination and EU grant writing.

The first appointment lasts 24 months and can be renewed, subject to performance and funding. Pay starts at €44,516.94 (point CYI5.2 on the CYI5 band), and the Institute lists flexible and remote working among its benefits.

Through the Institute's recruitment portal, candidates upload, in English and as PDFs, a CV with a short letter of interest or vision statement, a publication list and the names and contact details of three referees. The Institute says recruitment continues until the portal marks the process closed. Questions go to Dr George Artopoulos (g.artopoulos@cyi.ac.cy).
