History
- 1885Pitt Rivers built a private museum (Farnham, Dorset) for his Second Collection, after the First Collection (c. 200 Cypriot items) went to Oxford from 1884.

- 1950–1966Legal problems meant heirs treated the museum as private property; sales began in the 1950s and the museum closed after George Pitt Rivers died in 1966; later anonymous Sotheby's sales followed in the 1960s-70s.
