History

  1. 1891
Froehner's journal for 7 September 1891 says he offered Baron Barracco two small antique heads, one from Mycenae and a 'tete de Pallas' from Cyprus. Hellmann notes the Pietrangeli catalogue (1973) lists no Cypriot 'Pallas': two heads are 'dono Froehner' (nos. 72 and 46, a 'testina micenea' and a small head related to Tello sculptures), so either confusion or resale.

  2. 1893
Froehner's journal for 15 June 1893: at the Bammeville sale he bought a Cypriot head for Barracco. Hellmann identifies it with a Cypriot limestone head of a crowned priest(?), 6th-5th c. BC, Pietrangeli catalogue no. 67 (a tentative link, with Csornay 2000, p. 69).
