    Vassos Karageorghis, former Director of the Department of Antiquities, reported that Turkish archaeologists (from the University of Ankara, under Professor Ozgunel, with students of the 'Mediterranean University' in the occupied area) had begun excavations at Salamis from the previous August and occupied the dig-houses of the Department of Antiquities and the French mission. Karageorghis informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which acted through the Permanent Mission to UNESCO; the Ambassador in Paris also informed the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
