The project
In 1969 the Department of Antiquities excavated a Roman tomb in the school yard at Phlasou, dated by the report to Roman II and registered as CS. 17471. It held ordinary jugs, numerous glass unguentaria and clay lamps, one showing a man who seems to hold a goose, and a pair of white faience grape-cluster pendants with blue glaze1. In 1976 a tomb at Ayios Epiphanios, damaged by levelling work, yielded several vessels of local Cypro-Classical I-II fabrics and an Ionian skyphos 18 cm high and 15 cm in diameter, with the registration number CS 23922. The report records that the material from the tombs in that section, this one among them, was acquired by the Museum2.
