The project
A Late Cypriot tomb with a pair of bronze daggers and three silver earrings came to light at Mathiatis in 1988, discovered accidentally during the installation of water pipes on the road to Lythrodondas by the Water Development Department1. The Department of Antiquities excavated it as a rescue under Dr Maria Hadjicosti1.
The tomb has a single chamber of almost circular plan. The reported assemblage included ceramics, predominantly White Slip II and Base Ring I, the pair of bronze daggers, the three silver earrings and several stone beads1. Hadjicosti published it as Tomb 2 in a 1991 article in the Report of the Department of Antiquities, Cyprus, "The Late Bronze Age Tomb 2 from Mathiatis (New perspectives for the Mathiatis region)"2.
