The project
In summer 1994 a team from the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS-FORTH) under Apostolos Sarris measured vertical magnetic gradient and soil resistance near the sanctuary at Athienou-Malloura, in grids that partly overlapped those of 19901. The processed data suggested linear anomalies close to the sanctuary and a possible continuation of the complex to the west and south; Sarris reports that later excavation partly corroborated this1. In 1995 ground-penetrating radar was used in selected areas at Magara Tepesi, including between T 25 and T 26 and southwest of T 27, to look for architecture and further tombs1. Sarris describes the work in a chapter of the Malloura volume published in 20111.
