Limassol: Department of Antiquities and Limassol Museum rescue excavations (1991–2002)

Construction works revealed tombs in the town of Limassol, yielding abundant material: a White Painted IV jug in Amathonte style with tree decoration (Lim. t. 219/2) and two bronze mirrors (Lim. t. 224/1). Tombs yielding terracotta, stone, bronze, silver and faience objects, very similar to the furniture of the Amathonte tombs. Lookahead details tomb 7 (A. Phyla t. 7/81 etc.), not on these pages. Third group of tombs near Limassol at Ayia Phyla, found during construction; finds in terracotta, stone, bronze, silver and faience, very similar to the Amathonte tomb furniture. Tomb 260 of the Archaic period, excavated in Ruben Street near the Tsireion football ground. Thirty tombs excavated in the centre of Limassol, near the sea, dating to the Early and Late Bronze Age, with abundant grave goods indicating a rich cemetery. Illustrated tomb groups: Red Polished I tenon vases (tombs 234/5, 245/1), White Slip I bowl (240/10), Base-Ring I bowl (240/6), Bichrome IV skyphos (260/112).

Archaic and Classical tombs at the edge of Limassol; tomb 267 yielded a Bichrome IV jug (LM 1580) and a second Bichrome IV jug (LM 1580), among other rich material. The text does not say who excavated them. Hellenistic and Roman tombs; tomb 270 yielded a miniature Barbotine ware jar (LM 1556).

Bichrome IV oenochoe (T 291/30, Μ.Λ 1844), recollé, from one of the few tombs excavated in the town and district of Limassol.

Tombs 291 to 297, found and excavated during construction or other works in the town; they range from the Geometric to the Roman period. Finds on this page include a Bichrome III kylix and a Red Slip I (III) jug from tombs 292, and a Bichrome amphoriskos from tomb 293. Small Bichrome Red IV jug from tomb T. 2/16 (M. Λ. 1875), dated Late Geometric to Early Archaic.

A fairly large number of tombs was excavated in Limassol town during the laying of a sewer. Objects from tombs T. 302, T. 307 and T. 309 include a beaker, a gourd, Bichrome III and Bichrome Amathusian-style vessels, a White Painted III hydria and an imported oenochoe.

Emergency excavation of four Late Bronze Age tombs yielding Mycenaean and Cypriot (Canaanite) pottery, including a pithoid amphora HR III A1 (T. 322/11), a crater HR III A2 (T. 322/3), and Red Lustrous Wheelmade jug and flask (T. 322/16, 322/20).

Sewer-system works continue to uncover tombs of the ancient cemetery dating from the end of the Geometric period and the beginning of the archaic period. Selected finds are presented: a bichrome Red II bowl, ram figurine, fragmentary figurine, and objects from tombs 328/98, 327/8 and 327/10. Continued presentation of Late Geometric to Early Archaic objects from the town cemetery, found during sewerage works, and objects from seizures after illegal actions: a centaur figurine, a female-head amulet, a gold leaf, and vessels and figurines from T. 63 (RR1010).
