The project
In March 1909 Eustathios Constantinides, called Evstathios Constantinidhis in Merrillees's account, was clearing a necropolis near Kythraea, with the High Commissioner's sanction, representing the Museum Committee1. When Jerome Farrell visited, 23 tombs of different periods had been opened1.
Farrell reported on the state of the excavation records and the finds. Constantinidhis kept some notes on scraps of paper but produced no day book or inventory when asked, and he relied on kinsmen working as labourers to help separate finds into tomb groups on occasion; the objects were in great confusion at the time of the visit1. Merrillees states that the Kythrea tombs were noted by Peristianes but that the results were never properly published1.
