The project
In 1972 Nicholas P. Stanley Price directed a surface survey at Kourvellos, near Kataliondas, reported as A Prehistoric Survey of the Analiondas Region1. Beck reports that approximately 13,500 objects and object fragments were collected2. According to Beck, the survey authors treated the scatter as covering more than 10 hectares and thought erosion had destroyed the deposits beneath it2. Beck's own fieldwork and geomorphological study led him to argue that erosion produced the broad distribution and that the original site lay at the base of the rocky outcrop; he dates the Neolithic occupation to the eighth millennium BCE, pending more precise dating2.
