Erimi-Kafkalla: Department tomb rescues, 1971–1972
1971–1972 · Erimi-Kafkalla
Rescue work by the Department of Antiquities in the Kafkalla cemetery at Erimi in 1971 and 1972, covering three partly looted Late Cypriot tombs and a small Late Cypriot II tomb.
The project
In 1971 the Department of Antiquities excavated three partly looted Late Cypriot tombs in the Kafkalla cemetery at Erimi-Kafkalla1. The finds included Proto-White Slip and White Slip I jugs, Base Ring I and II jugs and bowls, and a Red Polished IV bowl with finely incised hatched lozenges; the chronicle gives the Cyprus Museum register references CS. 1823 for the Base Ring pottery and CS. 1824 for the bowl1. In 1972 a small Late Cypriot II tomb in the same cemetery was reported. It contained Base Ring II and White Slip II pottery, a Mycenaean IIIB stirrup jar, and a small gold tube or funnel described as a mouthpiece for glass bottles, captioned CS. 1910/52.
