Alambra: Ohnefalsch-Richter and Dümmler, 1885
1885 · Alambra
Max Ohnefalsch-Richter and Ferdinand Dümmler opened one tomb in each of Alambra's two Bronze Age necropoleis in 1885; the finds went to the Cyprus Museum.
The project
In 1885 Max Ohnefalsch-Richter and Dr. Dümmler opened one tomb in each of the two Bronze Age necropoleis at Alambra1. Schmid reports that Dümmler applied in 1885 to excavate at Alambra and other places, and argues that he probably obtained his permit on behalf of the German Imperial Archaeological Institute while remaining personally in charge2. The contents of the tombs went to the Cyprus Museum, but by the time of the 1899 catalogue the tomb groups had been mixed with other collections and could not be reconstructed1.
