The project
Divers working off the Aspros coast in 2007 recovered 40 pieces of chipped stone, ten of them tools, and two likely ground stone tools from depths of 6 to 15 m below present sea level1. The fieldwork at Akamas-Aspros and Nissi Beach was a Colgate University project listed from 2006 with Albert J. Ammerman, Jay Stratton Noller and Carole McCartney2. Harpster reports Ammerman's 2007 survey and describes the tools as possibly more than 10,000 years old3. Knapp places both sites among possible coastal Late Epipalaeolithic sites but notes that they lack firm radiocarbon dates, and reports that at least part of the Aspros site now lies underwater1.
