The Art of Cypriot Limestone

Limestone was a readily available material in Cyprus, leading to a rich tradition of stone sculpture. Funerary stelae, votive statues, and architectural elements were carved, often displaying a blend of indigenous Cypriot features with influences from Phoenicia, Egypt, and the Aegean. These pieces are crucial for understanding religious practices and social hierarchies of ancient Cypriots.
