… time was found in the dark red earth, whereas the coarse pottery was found occurs mainly in the light bottom layer as well as in the lighter parts above. Do the classical and Hellenistic sherds seem to belong there too? It is thus highly probable that the different light and dark earth types came from different locations or at least different layers, representing the different periods, and that they were only incompletely mixed at the place of the excavation. These observations concerning the earth conditions and the sherds are also being made as the excavation proceeds. The cement floor continues in the same way c. m from the quadrangular stone set into the floor up to another similar one parallel with the former. Another similar stone has been found but broken away; here too it is established that the floor is laid on the rock. The edge levelling disappears into the trench wall.
