Lapithos-excavation autumn 1928
20/10The excavation site lies a scant English mile west of the centre of Lapithos, at a locality called Plákes or Alónia ton Plákon. The terrain consists of a steep slope supported by cultivation terraces and natural smaller plateaux. The so-called old road to Vasilia cuts beside the excavation site a section through such an earth plateau, and it is at this place that prehistoric and Neolithic sherds have been found. The area is levelled in and measured, and the work is started with a smaller force. A trench 2 m. broad is laid out in the longitudinal direction of the area, roughly east-west. After this trench the grid will then be set up, and the trench itself is incorporated into the grid as the baseline
