The Karavostasi - matter 1928

16/5Work begins in the field nearest west of "Sofia's field", where the place of the 20-year-old frieze find is pointed out. A broad trench is laid in roughly a north-south direction. It swings somewhat and sets course for a column base, which was found one foot below the surface, in a pit that a well-meaning spectator had scratched open. In addition, in the trench a column piece, about 1.25 m long, together with a fragment of a capital (Roman). Some marble pieces may be parts of the hypothetical frieze. In front of the others, a piece of a horse in relief. Measured in from the north and west trench edges: 1.10 , 0.60 deep 0.45 m. The sherd material is to c. 0.75 m Byzantine and Roman.
