Topographical notes on Lapithos

Prostémenos or Trímmaton. East of Lapithos, on the eastern side of a deep ravine lying forms a plateau area, where Richter has dug and found a good deal of statuary art. On a height above the plateau lies a cave hewn out of the rock with three entrances, the so-called Trímmaton. It seems to have served cult purposes. In the area I found, besides a quantity of late pottery, also a number of fragments of statuettes, one archaic. It seems to have been a cult place, which the very name Pros- témenos also suggests. The earth is deep and the place otherwise inviting.
