Description

A bearded man in a dark jacket and a tall cylindrical cap sits on a wooden chair and works on a piece of leather at a long wooden table. A younger man in an apron sits at the far end of the table among tools and scraps. Leather offcuts lie on the dirt ground in front of them, and a timber-framed building with a wooden balcony stands behind on a dirt road.

"The secular priest, who must be married… is generally an unpretentious person, principally occupied in seeking to supplement his meagre pittance for the support of his numerous brood… he will grind corn, press oil and turn his hand to anything."
