Description

A view down a steep, densely wooded hillside covered in pine trees. In the lower centre, a two-storey building with a hipped tiled roof and a balcony stands among the trees, with forested ridges rising behind it. A pale strip of sky shows at the top, and a printed caption runs along the bottom edge of the card.

English, as on the record

STAVROS FOREST REST HOUSE Norman Smith "There are whole woods of cypress, and many pine trees. From these last oozes the best and most fragrant resin or turpentine, of the greatest use in affections of the stomach. Wild in the woods are found gazelles, deer, rabbits and many other such animals, but none dangerous or savage." Ioannes Cotavicus-1599 (Itinerarium Hierosolymitanum)
